Offered is a trio of Tom Brady Sports Illustrated covers all graded by CGC. The Feb. 13, 2002, issue entitled "Amazing" celebrates the franchise's first Super Bowl following the 2001 season. Rookie quarterback Tom Brady was named MVP of Super Bowl XXXVI as the Pats defeated the Rams in the final seconds on Adam Vinitieri's game-winning field goal. This was the first time Brady was on the cover of a major sports magazine. CGC has graded it a 9.2 on their rating scale. The highest example in the CGC Census is 9.8/10.0.
Tom Brady got his first official Sports Illustrated cover on April 15, 2002. An injury to incumbent starter Drew Bledsoe during the regular season opened the door for the late round pick out of Michigan and the 24-year-old rookie QB took the Pats all the way to the promised land. An interesting coincidence is that Barry Bonds, then with the San Francisco Giants, also appeared on this cover. Brady and Bonds both attended the same high school, Serra High in San Mateo, CA (Bay Area). CGC has rated this issue a lofty 9.2 on their 10-point scale. Presented here is a high-grade October 18, 2004 Sports Illustrated (volume #101, issue #15) with the featured story being Tom Brady and the New England Patriots' NFL record 19-game winning streak.
The final of the three issues reeks of Boston sports fandom as the upper headline shows Johnny Damon and touts the Red Sox's upcoming 2004 ALCS matchup with their rivals from the Bronx. We all know how that turned out. From 0-3 to 4-3 and eventually World Champions, ending the 86-year "Curse of the Bambino." This CGC Near Mint 9.2 copy is one of just six in its grade, with the best conditioned copy being CGC 9.6 (Near Mint+).
