International Boxing Hall of Famer Thomas Hearns originally nicknamed the "Motor City Cobra" and more famously The Hitman" became the first boxer in history to win five world titles in five different divisions. As an amateur he compiled a 155-8 record and once he turned pro in 1977 ran off a string of 17 straight wins all by knockout. In the end Hearns had an overall professional record of 61-5-1 winning 48 of his bouts by KO. Offered here is an original fight-worn robe used by Thomas "Hitman" Hearns early in his career (Oct. 18 1979) against Saensak Muangsurin of Thailand. Finely crafted in gold satin with red trim the robe includes the original gold/red belt. Approximately knee length with no hood. On the back in sewn-on blue capital lettering is his name: THOMAS HEARNS. Robe shows wear but is perfectly intact with only three small holes or tears. The back of the robe shows some discoloring and what appears to be small blood stains. In the scheduled 10-round bout that evening at Detroits Olympia Stadium Hearns dominated the fight before earning a third-round TKO (Technical Knockout) over Muangsurin. The robe has been matched to video footage. An exceptional artifact from one of the most prolific fighters of his generation.
