The great Ted Williams hit a total of 521 home runs and earned six American League batting titles during his stellar career with the Boston Red Sox. His one wish was that when he walked down the street people turned and said: "There goes the greatest hitter that ever lived." With a career .344 batting average people really did consider him one of the greatest. This lot features a classic black-and-white portrait of Williams standing on the dugout steps at Boston's Fenway Park with fellow Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio of the visiting New York Yankees. During the same 1941 season when Williams hit .406 DiMaggio set a new MLB record by hitting safely in 56 straight games. Williams signed the print in blue marker and added the inscription: "The best I ever saw" in reference to DiMaggio. The print has been matted and framed so the overall dimensions are now 26" wide by 23" high.
