This home white air-knit gamer by CCM and Eastside was worn by Hall of Famer Steve Yzerman during the 1995 NHL Playoffs series vs. the Dallas Stars. Prior to the 198687 season at the age of 21 Yzerman was named captain of the Red Wings and continuously served for the next two decades (dressing as captain for more than 1300 games) retiring as the longest-serving captain of any team in North American major league sports history. Once voted to be the most popular athlete in Detroit sports history locals often simply refer to Yzerman as "The Captain." Yzerman led the Wings to five first-place regular season finishes and three Stanley Cup championships (1997 1998 and 2002). He was a ten-time NHL All-Star a First Team All-Star in 2000 and a member of the All-Rookie Team in 1984. Yzerman retired in 2006 finishing his career ranked as the sixth all-time leading scorer in NHL history having scored a career-high 155 points (65 goals/90 assists) in 198889 which has been bettered only by Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux.
Yzerman wore this classic Red Wings jersey on that May 15 1995 Game Five against the Stars closing out the series with a 3-1 win in Detroit. On the back inside collar is the East Side label directly above a CCM label with a size 50 flag tag alongside. East Side stamping in Red Wing red appears on the inside back of the tail hem; the red-stitched embroidery of "CCM" appears on the outside of the tail adjacent to the black-and-orange NHL shield logo. On the left breast is the Captain's "C" in red tackle twill. The famed Red Wings red and white embroidered patch is featured on the front with Yzerman's No. 19 and his name arched across the shoulders on the back (sewn directly to the shirt) in the same red tackle twill. The Hall of Famer has signed on the front of the shirt in black Sharpie above the Red Wings logo patch adding his No. 19 inscriptions. The jersey shows game-use including stick marks and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the Detroit Red Wings and a Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum Collection.
