Beautiful set of 6 Auto Racing flags from the Indianapolis 500 along with their original canvas case. Printed on the front of the case is: "BOB VANDERLIP. OFFICIAL STARTER. PRESENTED BY "RED" GRANGE. 1926". Flags are: Checkered(Winner / Session Finished)* White(Final lap / Emergency vehicle on track) White(Final lap / Emergency vehicle on track)* Red(Session Stopped)* Green(Start of race / Restart / End of hazard / Safe racing conditions / Pit lane open) Black square on white background(Return to the pits for a penalty or to service a mechanical problem). Flags in used condition with some color fading. Obviously have been used many times. * Brass tip missing at bottom. Case itself is till in very nice condition with a couple of light stains. Interesting group of racing flags.
Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Helms Athletic Foundation/LA84 Collection.
