If you can believe it another U.S. Men's Olympic Basketball Team was even more dominant than the much-publicized 1992 "Dream Team" that captured gold in Barcelona Spain. Thirty-six years earlier the 1956 U.S. Men's Olympic Basketball Team descended upon Melbourne Australia to participate in the Summer Games and annihilated the competition. Led by Basketball Hall of Fame center Bill Russell who averaged 14.1 points per game and was then a recent 22-year-old graduate of the University of San Francisco the team not only claimed the gold medal but beat their opponents handily by an average of 53.5 points per game. That's nearly 10 points higher than the lopsided game differentials averaged by the '92 Dream Team.

The 1956 Olympic men's basketball tournament took place from Nov. 22 to December 1 and saw the U.S. men go 8-0 with convincing victories over Japan (98-40) Thailand (101-29) Philippines (121-53) Bulgaria (85-44) Brazil (113-51) Uruguay (101-38) and the U.S.S.R. twice (85-55 and 89-55) the latter game being the gold medal contest. Beyond Russell's contribution another pivotal player for the U.S. Men's team was 5' 11" guard Ron Tomsic who scored 89 points on his way to averaging 11.1 points per game (third highest on the team). A three-time All-Pacific Coast Conference selection while at Stanford Tomsic also held the school's all-time scoring record at the time (1416 points).

Offered here are Tomsic's full game-worn uniform from those Olympic Games along with the U.S. Olympics belt that was awarded to each player and his Olympic travel bag which Tomsic has autographed in black on the outside. Despite its 60 years the uniform remains in remarkable condition with Tomsic's number "10" in blue tackle twill outlined in red gracing the front of the white Wilson manufactured jersey while red-and-blue trim outline both the collar and sleeve areas. The accompanying white shorts include an official AAU embroidered patch on the right thigh with "USA" running down either side of the shorts in white tackle twill against a blue stripe. The blue-and-white canvas travel bag reads "U.S.A. Olympics" on the outside which wraps around Tomsic's number "10" in the center. Includes LOA from Ron Tomsic. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
