The 1981 World Series presented a familiar matchup with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees facing off once again for the third time within the previous five years. With the Yankees defeating the Dodgers in the first two matchups, L.A.'s team entered the 1981 World Series with rookie phenom, Fernando Valenzuela, alongside a veteran core of Ron Cey, Steve Garvey, Bill Russell, Davy Lopes, and Reggie Smith, hoping to be enough star power to overcome their shortcomings in previous years.

The series started out difficult for the Dodgers, dropping the first two games at Yankee Stadium before returning home to Dodger Stadium, where things turned around, as they took all three home games by a one-run margin. Returning to the Bronx with a series lead, the Dodgers knew they had an excellent opportunity to close out the series. After trailing 1-0 by the third inning, the Dodgers' offense turned on with a run in the 4th inning, tacking on three more in the 5th, and four more in the 6th inning, making it smooth sailing to a close-out victory in game six.

This lot features one of the marquee pieces from the 1981 World Series, Ron Cey's championship ring. The ring has been designed with a large diamond placed in a diamond shape atop a Dodger blue stone. The face reads "LOS ANGELES DODGERS WORLD CHAMPIONS". The left shank has “19” and “81” embossed on each top corner, with a heightened depiction of the Commissioner’s World Series trophy below that is engraved with “LOS ANGELES DODGERS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY OCTOBER 28, 1981”. The right shank features "CEY" alongside the Dodgers logo and "10" denoting Cey's number. The inner band is stamped with "BALFOUR 14k", engraved for the manufacturer and ring makeup.

The size 11 ring weighs 30.33 grams and remains in its original Balfour presentation box. This lot has been derived directly from the Ron Cey Collection and is accompanied by a letter of provenance.
