This was Rollie Fingers' fourth and final Rolaids Relief Man Award and much like a couple of other seasons the pesky balloting could have been skipped altogether and No. 4 could have been granted by acclamation. Returning to the American League after one of the most successful free-agent forays ever recorded in his four-year stint in San Diego Fingers joined the Milwaukee Brewers in that historic and ugly 1981 season riven by labor wrangles and a grotesque truncated season. The unflappable Fingers weathered that irksome storm handily turning in arguably his finest campaign one in which he pulled off the rare daily double of winning the American League Cy Young and MVP awards. With a microscopic ERA of 1.06 and 28 saves in a shortened season the Rolaids Relief Man Award for 1981 was added to a vast tsunami of honors that came his way that remarkable year. Rollie Fingers was awarded this last 21-inch high trophy with a silver fireman's helmet supported by a silver column on a 10-inch high wooden base. A gold emblem at the front of the helmet features the iconic Major League Baseball red white and blue logo along with the words "Rolaids Relief Man Award" and "Major League Baseball." A 4-by-6-inch gold nameplate on the base notes Fingers' name American League Milwaukee Brewers and 1981. The trophy is in superb condition betraying only the tiniest specks of scuffing or the occasional small scratch along the bottom of the wooden base or the 10-inch main wood support and is in otherwise in problem-free and virtually as issued condition. Fingers has added his attractive and distinctive black Sharpie autograph on the back wooden panel of the base. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from Rollie Fingers.
