In 1961 the New York Yankees led by the booming bats of Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle were the talk of the town. Not only were they running away with the American League pennant but the two aforementioned players were in a tight race threatening to break Babe Ruths all-time single-season home record of 60 which was set in 1927. Managed by Ralph Houk the Yankees finished the regular season with a record of 109-53 a full eight games ahead of the second-place Detroit Tigers. They went on to win the World Series by beating the Cincinnati Reds in five games to claim their 19th Fall Classic. It was Maris who broke Ruths longstanding record by hitting 61 homers in 1961 the last one coming on the last day of the regular season against the Boston Red Sox. Mantle followed with 54 round-trippers and first baseman Bill Moose Skowron was next in line for the Bronx Bombers with 28 dingers. This baseball has been signed by all three former Yankees with Mantle in blue ink occupying the sweet spot and Skowron and Maris the latter in faded black ink occupying the side panels. What makes this triple-signed baseball unique besides the players featured is that their home runs totals for that season are notated just below each of their respective signatures. A great piece of sports memorabilia for any ardent Yankees fan.
