In 1961 well before Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa squared off in Major League Baseball's greatest home run race of all time a pair of New York Yankees teammates (Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle) put the baseball world on its ear with an incredible race of their race. Trying to break the 34-year-old mark of 60 home runs set in a single season by the legendary Babe Ruth Maris and Mantle battled opposing pitchers and each other at times to best the incomparable Ruth. In the end Maris playing in 161 games broke Ruth's record with home run No. 61 on the final day of the regular season. Mantle meanwhile who played in eight fewer games hit 54 round-trippers.
This lot features a dual-signed 8" x 10" color photograph of the two sluggers posing alongside each other with their weapons of choice. The photograph signed clearly in blue marker by both players has been beautifully placed inside a framed and matted display piece that measures 16" wide by 18.5" high.
