Rod Woodson entered the NFL in 1987 with the Pittsburgh Steelers where he quickly established himself as one of the best cornerbacks in football. A star sprinter and hurdler in college who flirted with a professional track & field career Woodson was also a dynamite punt/kick returner scoring four touchdowns on special teams his first six seasons. Offered here is his game-worn and autographed Steelers helmet from 1995 and ’96 when Pittsburgh won the AFC Central division both seasons. Rod tore his ACL the first game of the ’95 season tackling Barry Sanders and became the first player in history to come back from reconstructive surgery the same year when played in Super Bowl XXX against the Cowboys. An 11-time Pro Bowler during his 17 seasons Rod holds the record for interception returns for touchdowns (12) and was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1993. His 71 career interceptions still rank third-most in NFL history. In 2009 he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on his very first ballot.The Riddell ‘AF-2’ helmet shows excellent game usage with marks and scratched all over the black shell. Sporting the iconic Steelers decal logo on both sides with a gold stripe over the middle it has Woodson’s uniform number (“26”) decal front and back in white with the NFL logo decal on the back. The original chin strap remains intact marked “26” in black pen. The facemask appears to be the original and has four Schutt mask clips stamped “93”. The ear pads are intact and as is the interior suspension padding. Woodson has signed his name on the right side of the shell in shiny gold marker with “HOF 09” inscribed. He has written “Game Worn 1995 & 1996 Season” in gold on the left side.
