NFL Hall of Fame defensive back Rod Woodson started making his presence felt on the field of play as a standout safety for the Purdue Boilermakers. Before he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers Woodson was busy winning awards and praise for his all-out hustle for Purdue. This lot features his autographed and game-worn Purdue gold mesh jersey as well as his white football pants that he wore circa 1983 to '86 while taking down ball carriers in the collegiate ranks. The size "L" nylon mesh jersey includes proper manufacturer's notation on the bottom left front tail by virtue of a "USCS" tag (size L). The front of the jersey reads "PURDUE" in screened-on black leters outlined in white that are positioned right above Woodson's trademark uniform number "26" in similar screened fashion. A 100% NYLON tag is sewn into the inside rear collar. Woodson has signed the front of the jersey just to the left of the "P" in PURDUE in black fine-point marker and added his uniform number 26. The jersey reveals plenty of game use with multiple paint transfers from on-the-field collisions throughout. His number 26 is repeated on both sleeves with the Purdue Boilermakers logo screened just below the numbers. His screened jersey number "26" also appears on the reverse albeit much larger.
The accompanying Russell Athletic white football pants (nylon/spandex size M) show outstanding game use with blood stains appearing on the left knee. A black and gold stripe appears on either pant leg. Fraying is evident throughout the pants. The inside rear waistband includes the proper manufacturer's tagging complete with washing instructions. On the right side of the inner waistband includes black marker reading "30 32 R." From images it appears the pants were worn for road games and the pants for home contests at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette IN.
