Rod Carew was a prolific infielder who patrolled every base for 19 seasons in the major leagues. He played his first 12 seasons for the Minnesota Twins where he was named American League Rookie of the Year in 1967 and earned All-Star selections every season. In 1977 his second-to-last season of playing for the Twins before beginning a seven-year tenure with the then-California Angels Carew turned in a season for the ages. Besides leading the major leagues with a .388 batting average he obtained league highs in hits (239) runs scored (118) triples (16) and on-base percentage (.449). He also drove in 100 runs which marked his only season of cracking the century mark in runs batted in. To no ones surprise Carew was named the American League MVP.

This lot features Carews MLB All-Star ring from the 1977 Mid-Summer Classic which was held at Yankee Stadium on July 19. Although the National League team bested the A.L. All-Stars 7-5 Carew went 1-for-3 on the night with one run scored. This marked Carews 11th of 18 All-Star Game nods. The size 10 ring sports a large light blue stone in the center surrounded by the words BASEBALL ALL STAR in raised lettering. One shank reads CAREW positioned just above the MLB logo and a baseball with 77 on it to mark the season. The other shank shows the New York skyline near the top with a replication of Yankee Stadium just below it with a succession of baseballs protruding from the outfield with the largest baseball sporting the New York Yankees NY logo. Inside band is stamped with a horse jumping through the top loop of a large "B.
