Hall of Famer Robin Yount embodied the spirit of a baseballera when the game produced true hometown heroes. Homegrown stars like TonyGwynn (“Mr. Padre”) Mike Schmidt and Cal Ripken Jr. who stayed with the teamsthat drafted them for the entirety of their professional careers. In 1974 Yountbecame one of the youngest to ever make his MLB debut at the tender age of 18. He is still the youngest player in MLB history to hit a home run. “The Kid" gave the Milwaukee Brewers everything he had for20 outstanding seasons. In today’s game with free-agency and impatient frontoffices loyalty and reliability are hard to come by. A member of the elite3000 hit club he played a steady shortstop for the first half of his careerand won the American League Gold Glove Award in 1982 his first of two MVPseasons. In the mid-1980’s he transitioned seamlessly to centerfield and continuedto put up great offensive numbers. Few have been able to take on the two mostphysically demanding positions on the field with as much grace and natural ability as Robin. Featured here is Yount’s game-used Rawlings fielder’s glove from the mid-1970’s whenRobin was turning two on the field for the Brew Crew yet getting turned away atthe local brewery. It is the earliest and certainly the finest piece of Yount-usedleather to have surfaced in the hobby offered directly from his personalcollection.

The “XPG 6-P” professional model leather glove hastwo Rawlings manufacturer's tags stitched to the outside. “EDGE - U-CATED HEEL U.S. PAT. No. 2995757" is branded on the outer thumb with afading "FOR THE Professional PLAYER" on the inner pinky. On the innerheel is the model number "XPG 6-P” and "Rawlings MADE IN U.S.A.” Thepocket has a slightly worn-off “HEART of the HIDE” inside a steer depiction. “WINGTIP” inside a wing depiction appears on the outer fingers. All manufacturingimprints are done in black. Yount has autographed the outer webbing in lovely 8/10black marker. The shortstop’s mitt shows a tremendous amount of use with theleather heavily worn discolored and scuffed inside and out. Considering how particularand attached ballplayers are to their gloves (especially middle infielders) wecan be sure that this one was a favorite of Yount’s in his early years. Andconsidering the indisputable source it’s highly doubtful an earlier example morebroken in even exists. A simply spectacular glove from Milwaukee’s most beloved Brewer.

LOA from Robin Yount. Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
