Red Auerbach met his wife Dorothy when they were both undergraduates at George Washington University in Washington D.C. The were married on June 5 1941. Although Red spent much of his time living in Boston while Dorothy and their two daughters lived in Washington D.C. the couple had a close relationship for 59 years. Red once said of Dorothy "She didn't like to read the papers because if there was anything in there about me that was even a little bit negative it made her mad. She was very smart someone whose opinions I always respected and listened to. But she was also very supportive of whatever I wanted to do ..." This beautiful wood pipe stand/tobacco humidor features a beautifully inlaid lid with an engraved placard that reads "Dot to Arnold June 5 1942." The piece commemorating their first wedding anniversary holds six of Red's fine quality pipes. The stand and pipes all show moderate but not excessive usage wear. Includes a letter of provenance from the Auerbach estate.
