Joe Kelley played for 17 years from 1891 thru 1908 compiling a lifetime .319 Batting Average. He was a key member of those powerful Baltimore Orioles teams of the late 19th Century who won National League pennants in 1894 1895 & 1896 while finishing 2nd in 1897 & 1898. In 1897 in a post season series with 1st place Boston the Orioles defeated the Beaneaters to win the "Worlds Championship".
Presented here is a very rare signed and inscribed (9-10/10) vintage black steel tip pen ink cut signature of Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame outfielder Joe Kelley. The 3" by 7 1/2" piece of paper reads "I am Very Sincerely Joseph J. Kelley Baltimore Orioles Champions 1894-5-6". The cut signature has been slabbed by PSA/DNA with a remarkable MINT 9 grade.Kelley died in relative obscurity in 1943 and wasn’t elected to the Hall of Fame until 1971 which is the main reason for the great rarity of his signature today.
Joe Kelley signed items in any form are seldom offered at public sale and represent a “holy grail” for many Hall of Fame autograph collectors. Given the quality and boldness of the offered piece and the extraordinary inscription provided it is hard to fathom a more appealing Kelley signed item.
