Barney Dreyfuss (D. 1932) was a Pittsburgh Pirates owner who many people credit with establishing the World Series.
Prior to the start of the 1900 season, Dreyfuss purchased the Pirates. During the 32 years he owned the club, the Pirates won six National League pennants and two World Series titles (1909, 1925). The Veterans Committee enshrined him in the Hall of Fame in 2008.
From the Max Carey (former Pirates star, a HOFer himself) Collection, presented here is a strong autographed cut signature of Dreyfuss, with Beckett authentication. The cut is in a framed piece measuring 12 3/4" X 16 3/4" overall with a vintage portrait of Dreyfuss, plus a team photo of the 1926 Pirates.
Additional provence is provided from the Carey family that indicates this 1926 image was the first "official" Pirates team photo, taken at spring training. The cut is part of a personally signed New Years greeting card, still intact behind the matting, from owner Dreyfuss to his star player Carey.
