Offered here is a rare 1900 cabinet photograph of Teddy Roosevelt taken by famous photographer George Rockwood, the only known. Roosevelt served as Governor of New York until the unexpected death of Vice President Garret Hobart in 1899 opened the door for him to take his spot. After President McKinley was assassinated in 1901, Teddy became president at the age of 42.

 

This is the only known original example of this famous photograph and it has been exceptionally well-preserved in EX-MT condition. Teddy's portrait image in classy attire is captured with pinpoint accuracy and resolution. Rockwood photographs are highly collectible, especially when it comes to prominent figures like a U.S. President. Matted with a thick backing, the 7" by 10.5" cabinet photo has a dated caption at the bottom reading "Hon. Theo Roosevelt" and giving credit to Rockwood. The reverse is appropriately stamped with written notations.
