Incredibly rare 1888 Galaxy of the National League large format print by Hastings Photographic Studio Boston Mass. features outstanding black and white 3 1/3" by 5" photographs of all 8 teams in the National League. Crisp clear photos show very detailed facial images of all the players. In 1888 the National League consisted of the Washington Senators Pittsburgh Alleghenys New York Giants Boston Beaneaters Indianapolis Hoosiers Chicago White Stockings Philadelphia Phillies and the defending 1887 Champion Detroit Wolverines. An interesting side note is that several teams have either player heads cropped into the photo and/or full bodies cropped into the image. 20" by 24" thick paper print has extensive chipping and paper loss around the edges with a 1 1/2" by 1 1/2" piece missing at bottom center. Some tears with the most severe being about 6" from the bottom center up. There is also staining around 3 edges with some toning and about a 1/2" area of darker toning running vertically down the center of the piece. With all the problems this very rare print should profit from professional framing to produce an outstanding and very desirable display piece.
