Basketball’s Iron Man wore these uniform components while setting the record for most consecutive NBA games played. From 1972 to 1982 Randy Smith played in every game his team was scheduled to play first with the San Diego/LA Clippers then with the Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks.
The powder blue warm up jacket dates to the 1978-79 season and has the San Diego Clippers logo across the front in appliqué. The jacket is trimmed in orange and white ribbing with a full frontal zipper. Adidas tagging is sewn in the collar and “RA SMITH” is printed on the back in white appliqué. The jacket shows good use with some light staining throughout and the “A” on Smith’s name on the back has been removed. Getty 478563702 has example worn by World B. Free.
The 1982-83 home white mesh jersey has “CLIPPERS” across the front with Smith’s number “9” below in royal blue tackle twill. A size 42 Sand-Knit label is sewn in the lower left front tail. The neck and arm openings are trimmed in red white and blue ribbing. The back has “R. SMITH” arched above his number “9” in royal blue tackle twill. The jersey exhibits light game use with some fraying and puckering found on the tackle twill graphics.
The matching white mesh shorts are trimmed in red white and blue ribbing and have a vintage Clippers logo patch on the left thigh. There is a size 34 Sand-Knit label in the waistband and the drawstring is still intact. The shorts show light wear with a few small stains in the crotch and rear area. A rare set of San Diego Clippers gear worn by Smith as he set the NBA’s endurance record. Getty 494111554 has style/photo-match of Smith in the full set.
Includes a letter of provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
