Charles Williams better known as "Prince" Charles was a Light Heavyweight champion who turned professional in 1978. "Prince" Charles won his first title in the United States Boxing Association on Sept. 20 1986 when he earned a majority decision over James Salerno after knocking him down in the 2nd round. The belt featured here was made for Williams following that first USBA title. The USBA preceded the International Boxing Federation (IBF) one of boxing's four officially recognized title divisions. After Williams defended his USBA crown in 1987 the USBA officially became the IBF. "Prince" Charles continued his title onslaught by TKO'ing Bobby Czyz for the IBF Light Heavyweight Championship in 1987 and defended that IBF crown eight times until finally succumbing in 1993 to Henry Maske of Germany. In 1994 he moved down to Super Middleweight to take on IBF Super Middleweight title holder James Toney but was KO'd in the 12th round.
Weighing in at 7.8 lbs. the belt presents with three metal gold-colored plates resting on a black leather strap with a nice red velvet sash on the back. The outer plates are both inscribed "PRINCE CHARLES WILLIAM USBA CHAMP SEPT. 20 1986". The large 6.5 inch by 8 inch (approx.) center plate has an eagle atop with two boxing gloves over the patented USBA logo display piece done in beautiful enamel coloring. The strap is 44" long and includes an IBF-branded metal belt buckle. THe rear sash has come unglued from the strap on the top and right side. The center plate is loosely attached to the strap. The outer plates are each missing a screw from the same location. All red and crystal faux gemstones are present and secure. Overall it comes in EX-NM condition. Just needs a little glue and a few screws.
