Richard Milhous Nixon was the 37th President of the United States serving from 1969 until 1974 when he became the only U.S. president to resign from office. Nixon had previously served as a U.S. representative and senator from California and as the 36th Vice President of the United States under Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1953 to 1961. When it came to golf Nixon was considered one of the least athletic of the nation's Commanders in Chief who had a decent short game but whose drives rarely if ever surpassed 200 yards off the tee. Offered here is a custom set of President Nixon signature model clubs including five woods and ten irons. All 15 clubs were custom-made for Nixon by Toney Penna the golf company synonymous with the charismatic PGA player from the 1930's and 40's who worked for years at MacGregor and began designing his own line of clubs as Nixon took residence in the White House. They come directly from the family of a close friend and confidant of Nixon's.

The beautiful persimmon woods are typical of a Nixon set with 1 3 4 5 and 6; he rarely carried a 2-Wood. Each is labeled in yellow lettering "Toney Penna" on top of the club head with "PRESIDENT NIXON" and "TP2" on the bottom. The club heads show moderate use with some scuff marks. The ten irons 2 through 11 are labeled "PRESIDENT NIXON" in blue with a large "TP" and smaller "TP2" in red on the back of the club face; "Toney Penna" is stamped on the very bottom. The grooves of the club faces show light but visible usage. All woods and irons are equipped with metal shafts and Flange Wrap leather grips. The clubs have been very well-maintained and come directly from the family of John A. (Jack) Mulcahy an Irish-American businessman who hosted President Nixon on his official tour of Ireland in October of 1970. Nixon the First Lady and staff all stayed at Mulcahy's country home in Limerick called the Kilfrush House. During the trip Nixon visited his mother's ancestors at the Quaker Burial Ground in Hodgestown before meeting with Irish President Eamon de Valera in Dublin. Jack Mulcahy who worked in New York City at the time became a good friend and loyal supporter of Nixon from that point forward. He later received the President's clubs as a gift.

Includes notarized letter of provenance from Jack Mulcahy's daughter-in-law.
