Brooklyn-born Phil Rizzuto packed fielding wizardry hustle and supreme bunting ability into his 5-foot-6 160-pound frame. Beginning in 1941 Rizzuto manned the shortstop position for 13 seasons for the Bronx Bombersand remained a Yankee Stadium fixture for 40-plus seasons as a broadcaster. Throughout his wondrous playing career Rizzuto seemed to perennially get the better of his native borough as he was part of seven World Championship squadsfive of which earned titles at the expense of the Brooklyn Dodgers. On hand for each of the Yanks' unprecedented five straight Fall Classic triumphs (1949-1953) Rizzuto was named the League's MVP in '50 and remained an integral part of the team throughout their unprecedented run. Originating from the esteemed Barry Halper collection this Rawlings fielders glove was used by Rizzuto in his rookie season and first World Series in 1941 according his own. Rizzutos own testament to this comes in the form of an accompanying handwritten index card that reads "To Barry - this is the gloveI used my rookie year and my first World Series 1941 P.S. take good care of it - it took good care of me - your friend Phil Rizzuto. The glove is missing somelacing and the leather has cracked with age in a few areas. Rizzuto has signed the thumb in gold marker. A great game used artifact from the "Scooter" with ideal first-hand provenance. Rizzuto led all American League shortstops in fielding in 1949 and 1950 and was a five-time All-Star. EX-Barry Halper Collection. Includes a signed Letter of Provenance from David Wells.
