On June 17 1991 the late Payne Stewart outlasted runner-up Scott Simpson in a one-round playoff in the U.S. Open Golf Championship which was played at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska Minnesota. Simpson and Stewart finished three strokes clear of the remainder of the field. Both closed with 72s in the final round but Simpson had led by one stroke as he reached the 72nd tee. However Simpson missed the fairway and from deep rough could only manage a bogey dropping a stroke. So both Simpson and Stewart finished at 6-under 282. In the 18-hole Monday playoff Simpson led by two strokes as the twosome reached the 16th hole but over the final three holes there was a four-stroke swing in Stewart's favor giving Stewart his first U.S. Open title and second major championship title. This lot features a triple-signed piece of presentation sports memorabilia as Stewart autographed three specific items: a victorious photo of himself from the competition as well as a 1991 U.S. Open logoed Ultra golf ball and a replica scorecard of the official one he signed and gave to the USGA. He signed all three items in black marker. All three signed items are neatly displayed in a special walnut display that measures 19 wide by 16 high.

The Robert Zweigle collection represents 40 years of assembling sports memorabilia items from college and professional football professional golf and NCAA basketball. Bob Zweigle was a major supplier of promotional products to the NFL who personally attended 38 Super Bowls working closely with NFL personnel and establishing unique connections that helped grow his collection. He designed/produced Super Bowl press pins from XXV through XXXIX (the final year the NFL produced its own pins). He also designed/produced the Player Participation Trophy and Player of the Game Trophy for the Pro Bowl as well as the Arena Bowl Championship Trophy. He made it a personal quest to obtain in-person autographs on important memorabilia items at many sporting events wherein he had rare and unusual access.
