George Foster and Ken Griffey Sr. were teammates on Cincinnati's fabled “Big Red Machine" teams in the 1970's. Foster was the 1977 N.L. MVP after leading the league with 52 homers and 149 RBI. Griffey was a steady 3-time All-Star who consistently batted over .300 in his prime. This lot features a pair of bats that the former teammates used late in their MLB careers.

Griffey’s Cooper Pro 100 model S216 bat, from the 1986-89 era (Braves & Reds) just before he teamed up briefly with his more famous son on the Mariners, shows tremendous game use with many ball marks and white leather ball scuffs on the barrel. There is a medium coat of pine tar on the handle and the barrel has his number “22” in faded white paint and on the knob in black pen with the first “2” being made into a “1.”

George Foster’s Louisville Slugger P72 model bat, from the 1983-86 era when he played for the Mets, shows solid use with many ball marks on the barrel along with cleat and bat rack marks. Foster’s number “15” has been written on both ends in thick white paint. A great set of gamers from two invaluable cogs in the Reds back-to-back 1975-1976 World Series titles.

Includes letter of provenance from the daughter of a longtime MLB executive whose name will be revealed to the winning bidder.
