The late great Muhammad Ali was part of some of boxing’s greatest bouts ever. The three-time World Heavyweight Champion participated in a pair of much-publicized world heavyweight title bouts that are both featured in this lot showcasing 52-page fight programs from the 1970’s. The first program is from the “Fight of the Century” where Ali squared off against “Smokin Joe” Frazier at New York’s Madison Square Garden on March 8 1971. Still in excellent condition it includes 22 pages devoted to a “Gallery of the Heavyweight Champions” that features the best heavyweights who ever entered the ring as well as extensive bios on both Ali and Frazier. In this fight which pitted a pair of undefeated boxers Frazier outlasted Ali in a 15-round slugfest and won by a unanimous decision. The second fight program chronicles the famous “Rumble in the Jungle” battle in Zaire Africa when Ali – as challenger – squared off against reigning world heavyweight champ George Foreman (undefeated at 40-0) on October 30 1974. In a bout made famous by Ali’s implementation of his “rope-a-dope” strategy Ali defeated Foreman by knocking him out in the eighth round. Aside from one slight tear on the bottom of the front cover this program is in immaculate condition. Two important fight programs from two of the most important fights ever held.
