The 1957 and 1959 Los Angeles Rams football teams were respectable clubs that finished 6-6 and 2-10 respectively. Both squads were coached by Sid Gillman and the starting quarterback for the 57 team was Hall of Famer Norm Van Brocklin. The 1959 team was led by Bill Wade at quarterback. This lot includes a pair of period footballs that were signed by both respective teams. The 1957 ball is a Rawlings-branded football that has been signed in green ink by 37 of the team members including Van Brocklin backup QB Bill Wade running backs Jon Arnett Elroy Crazy Legs Hirsch Tom Wilson and Joe Marconi along with defensive standouts like Lamar Lundy Jack Pardee and Artie Hauser. All the signatures are clearly legible and rate a 9-9/10. The 1959 ball is an official L.A. Rams commemorative Hutchison Brothers Hutch football that shows 30 somewhat faded signatures (6-8/10) including the scrawls of Arnett Pardee John Hauser Jim Red Phillips Frank Ryan Del Shofner Dick Daugherty Leon Clarke Charlie Bradshaw and Bill Jobko.
Includes a letter of provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
