Great pairing of U.S. Open Golf Championship programs from the 1940's. First we have the 1941 program for USGA's prime event held June 5-7 at Colonial Club in Fort Worth TX. Champion Craig Wood following his 1941Masters victory became the first player to capture the first two legs ofthe modern grand slam in the same year (since joined by Hogan PalmerNicklaus Woods and Spieth). Enclosing the cover is the program's original dust jacket layer made of fragile transparent WWII era paper an antique in its own rite. The front cover has no issues whatsoever while the back has a 1/4" tear at the top right edge. All pages are intact with the black and white photos inside as sharp as ever and overall it remains EX-MT.
The second program in this lot hails from the 1946 U.S. Open held June 13-15 at Canterbury Golf Club in Beachwood Ohio. After a five year hiatus due to his WWII duties Lloyd Mangrum won his only major championship in a three-man playoff that lasted two rounds on Monday June 16. He outlasted Byron Nelson and Vic Ghezzi to do so. The program comes in EX condition with no ripped pages but noticeable creasing and surface wear on the front and back covers.
