In the 1950s, there was no more famous living artist than Pablo Picasso. World-renowned for his paintings, drawings, and sculptures, Picasso possessed a rare talent that enabled him to transform almost anything he touched into a work of art, as exemplified by this handwritten note. The artist’s flowing, almost lyrical lines seem to echo his famed abstract drawing style. The note is addressed to long-time friend Max Pellequer. Whereas many of the artist’s notes and letters were dictated to his private secretary, Jaime Sabartés, Picasso has taken the time to inscribe the note to his friend in his own hand. With Picasso creating art at a prodigious pace, leaving no time for personal correspondence, handwritten examples of his writing are rare. This 1956 note to his close friend being an exquisite and quite artistic exception. The note has been encapsulated by PSA and graded a near-perfect MINT 9.
