Not surprisingly the good citizens of the City of St. Louis presented Ozzie Smith with the key to the city in this instance more precisely a 10 1/2-inch ornate bronze "key" that is mounted atop a 14-inch wooden base (3 inches deep and 2 inches high). An 11-inch metal plaque features the engraving: On behalf of the Citizens of the City of St. Louis WE THANK YOU for 14 years of Wizardry. On the key's stem is the name F. Bosley Jr. flanked at each side by 1993 and 1997 marking the tenure in the mayor's office of Freeman Bosley Jr. the city's 47 mayor and first African-American to serve at that post.
