Although they lost the World Series to their rival Yankees, many have argued the 1953 Dodgers are the greatest of the Brooklyn ballclubs. Storming through the 1953 campaign, the Dodgers led the league in every offensive category and won more games (105) than any Brooklyn team did before or after.
This first generation 8" X 10" photograph has been signed by 25 team members of the '53 NL pennant winners. A PSA/DNA LOA accompanies this eye pleasing and thought provoking framed treasure.
These were quite the decorated Dodgers. Their lineup boasted the NL MVP Roy Campanella, the NL batting champion Carl Furillo and NL Rookie of the Year Jim Gilliam. If there was a Cy Young Award given at the time, hurler Carl Erskine would have been the likely winner.
And we haven't mentioned yet that Jackie Robinson, Pee Wee Reese, Gil Hodges, Duke Snider, Joe Black and Dick Williams are among the many other notables that have signed in period ink.
Signing in the foreground, but not pictured, are Walter Alston (hired to replace Chuck Dressen before the '54 season) and Don Newcombe, who returned from military service in '54. Logically, then, it seems that this composite was autographed early in 1954, possibly during Spring Training.
Matted and framed, it it is excellent condition. Wow!
