By Oscar Robertson’s senior year it was obvious the 6' 5" point guard had the type of talent that came along once in a generation. In three varsity seasons with UC, “The Big O” single-handedly rewrote the Bearcats’ record book, led his team to a pair of Final Four appearances and put University of Cincinnati basketball on the map. The crowning achievement of Robertson’s collegiate career was being named Consensus First Team All-America as well as College Basketball Player of the Year for the third straight season. In addition, Oscar was named to the United Press International All-America First Team in 1958, 1959 and 1960.
In recognition of these honors, Robertson was presented with a framed award at the end of each college season. United Press editor, Leo H. Petersen, has signed each certificate on the bottom right in blue ballpoint. All three award certificates (approx. 8.5” by 11”) are included in this lot, well-preserved under glass in the same black frames that Oscar received them in some 60 years ago. The frames have each aged significantly, yet remain in tact and are still mountable for display as Oscar did for decades in his home. Includes LOA from Oscar Robertson.
PLEASE NOTE: Oscar will donate a portion of his auction proceeds to the Jerome Lipper Multiple Myeloma Center and LeBow Institute for Myeloma Therapeutics at Dana Farber. This renowned cancer treatment center “provides comprehensive care to patients with multiple myeloma, including promising new therapies through clinical trials rooted in an approach that brings laboratory discoveries quickly to the clinical setting” (https://www.dana-farber.org/multiple-myeloma-program).
