Billed as "The Last Hurrah," the October 2, 1980 heavyweight title fight between champion Larry Holmes and the returning Muhammad Ali at Caesars Palace was one of the most anticipated — and, in hindsight, most poignant — events in boxing history. A 38-year-old Ali, lured back by a reported $8 million purse after a two-year retirement, was thoroughly outclassed by his former sparring partner; Holmes, visibly reluctant to punish his idol, nonetheless registered a TKO victory in the 11th round when Ali's corner refused to let him answer the bell. The bout marked the effective end of Ali's competitive career and is remembered as a difficult but historically significant chapter in the story of boxing's greatest icon. Offered here is a full, unused ticket to this Don King-promoted event, its cover art rendered by famed sports artist LeRoy Neiman in his signature bold, impressionistic style. The ticket includes two attached stubs for Section IV, Row 18, Seat 99, each with a face value of $100. Graded PSA VG-EX 4 (cert. #26177880), the ticket remains fully intact with vibrant color retention on the Neiman artwork. As one of the most historically significant, if bittersweet, fights of Ali's career, tickets from "The Last Hurrah" are consistently popular with boxing collectors and Ali historians alike.
