For ordinary citizens identification items as a driver's license passport or visa carry little significance and are discarded without regard upon expiration. Muhammad Ali was no ordinary citizen. Offered here is Ali's embarkation card issued upon his flight back to the United States following his July 19 1972 fight against Alvin Lewis in Dublin Ireland. Filled out on the front by Ali with his birth date (1-17-42") place of birth ("Louisville K.Y.") and occupation ("PRO BOXER") along with his passport number the GOAT signed the bottom in bold black marker (9/10) with the first letter having smeared. It appears that he someone else may have handwritten "MUHAMMAD" at the top before Ali wrote his surname. The reverse of the yellow 4" by 6" document is stamped and dated July 20 1972 with "New Passport issued Dublin - original lost" handwritten in black ink.
Ali defeated Lewis his long-time sparring partner to retain the NABF heavyweight belt and extend his winning streak to seven following the first loss of his career to Joe Frazier in the "Fight of the Century" a year prior. It wouldn't be long before Ali got his revenge against Frazier. This simple travel document is an extraordinarily unique piece that helps connects the dots from Ali's historic run as a boxing legend. Comes will full LOA from Beckett (A04475). Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
