Dated “4-15-66” on the back, this piece was signed by Muhammad Ali just after he successfully defended his title against George Chuvalo and before his bout against Henry Cooper. But, more importantly, just before he signed this card, Ali had made headlines around the world when he refused to be drafted into the United States Armed Forces. This act of defiant resistance would result in his titles being vacated and his boxing license being suspended in every state. At this point in his career, Muhammad Ali had now transcended his boxing fame and became a larger symbol of the fight for Civil Rights and the anti-Vietnam War movement in the country. The card measures 3” x 5” and has been signed in blue ballpoint “Muhammad Ali World Champion.” The piece comes with a LOA from JSA.

Payment for your invoice must clear in full prior to shipping. All items will be shipped from SCP Auctions’ Laguna Niguel, CA office in the order that payments are received.
