A native of Louisville Kentucky boxing great Muhammad Ali rose to prominence after winning the Olympic Gold Medal in 1960 in Rome when his name was still Cassius Clay. He first gained international recognition by winning the light-heavyweight boxing gold medal that year. From 1960 to 63 the young fighter amassed a professional record of 190 with 15 knockouts. Then on Feb. 25 1964 the underdog Cassius Clay age 22 defeated champion Sonny Liston via a technical knockout to win the world heavyweight boxing crown. After the fight Clay announced his decision to become a Black Muslim and changed his name to Muhammad Ali. This lot includes a pair of significant pieces of sports memorabilia from Alis career. The first is a dual-signed hard-cover edition of the photo book entitled Muhammad Ali A Thirty-Year Journey taken by Howard L. Bingham. Bingham a freelance photographer met Ali in 1963 and compiled an incredible collection of black-and-white photographs taken over a 30-year period that chronicled Alis life and career. The book was published in 1993. Both Ali and Bingham signed the inside title page of the book Bingham in black ink and Ali in blue ink. Both signatures are solid and rate 8-9/10 in our book. The second item is a commemorative gold-colored Everlast boxing glove recognizing Super Fight II the second go-round for Ali versus Joe Frazier on January 28 1974 at Madison Square Garden. This was the fight where Ali avenged his first and only loss to Frazier in March of 1971 with a 12-round unanimous decision over Smoking Joe the second time out.
