The well-publicized Rumble in the Jungle was a historic boxing event in 1974 that was held in Kinshasa Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo). Staged at the 20th of May Stadium on the night of October 30 1974 it pitted the undefeated world heavyweight champion George Foreman against challenger Muhammad Ali a former heavyweight champion. Ali would eventually by knockout putting Foreman down just before the end of the eighth round. It has been called "arguably the greatest sporting event of the 20th century." Featured here is a large "Ali vs. Foreman Zaire" serigraph done by famed sports artist Leroy Neiman. It captures the essence of the Ali/Foreman "Rumble in the Jungle" with Neiman trademark vibrant colors and exuberant style. Limited to just 300 pieces only three are known to be autographed or inscribed by both Muhammad Ali and the late artist. Among those three is an example inscribed by Ali to his late Hall of Fame trainer Angelo Dundee sold by SCP Auctions in 2012 for $33845 as part of the Dundee estate auction. This particular print is numbered 16/300. The serigraph which measures 28.5 wide by 33.5 high is beautifully framed and matted inside an overall presentation that now measures 33 wide by 42.5 high. Up-close inspection of the serigraph reveals numerous scattered light creases in some areas but it presents beautifully as a showpiece. Ali signed it in fine-point black marker while Neiman signature is in pencil.
