Former heavyweight Mike Weaver began his professional boxing career in 1972 after serving in Vietnam. Early on he was used as a sparring partner for Muhammad Ali and Ken Norton who nicknamed him "Hercules" for his muscular build. By 1978 he was competing for the NABF title and others eventually earning his first championship victory in the United States Boxing Association (USBA) over Stan "Avalanche" Ward on Jan. 18 1979. He then gave the legendary Larry Holmes a tough battle for the 1979 WBC title ultimately falling in the 12th and final round. Later that year he took back the USBA title again with a Nov. 24 1979 unanimous decision over Scott "Fighting Frenchman" LeDoux for which the belt presented here was made. Weaver's 2nd reign as USBA champion gave him another monumental title shot in a recognized division this time the WBA Heavyweight Championship against "Big" John Tate in 1980. Weaver won the WBA title with a thrilling 15th round knockout and held it for five straight years.

This USBA belt weighing a robust 9.4 lbs. features three thick shiny gold-colored metal plates including a large 8 by 10 inch (approx.) plate at center attached to a red leather strap 47" long. The outer plates (3.75" x 5.5") are shield-shaped with a raised crown and two-branch design. They are supposed to have two faux crystal gemstones but the right-facing plate is missing its bottom one. These outer plates are attached to the center plate using two chain links. The center plate surrounded with a chain perimeter has a large eagle wings spread out standing over two boxing figures squaring off next to American flag colored enamels. The boxing figures flank a centerpiece raised crown with two red faux gemstones and "U.S. MONARCH OF ALL" engraved around it - although this raised crown has slipped off its original position and now obscures part of that inscription. The main inscriptions of the center plate have "UNITES STATES HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION" engraved on a scroll plaque directly above "MIKE WEAVER" with "PRESENTED BY UNITED STATES BOXING ASSOC. 11-24-79" down below. The belt buckle is intact and problem-free. Overall the belt comes in EX condition with minor scratching on the nameplate.
