Every youngster who grew up in and around the New York metropolitan area during the 1950's and '60's worshipped Mickey Mantle. For those starry eyed aspiring ballplayers who wanted to emulate their pinstriped hero Rawlings stocked retail shelves with the MM5 Mickey Mantle “Professional Model" baseball glove. This store model right-handed glove (MM5) includes Mantle's facsimile signature in the palm. This glove exhibit extensive usage wear and the red Rawlings label is absent from the wrist strap.  The significant feature unique to this particular glove is that its legendary endorser Mickey Mantle himself  graced it with a bold blue sharpie signature on the outer finger with a rare added notation “C.F. YANKEES 1951-1968.” The inscription remains quite bold with only minor bleeding. Faint evidence of other writing having been removed appears on the outer pinkie finger not severely affecting the glove’s outstanding display quality.

Provenance: This lot originates from a gentleman who has enjoyed a long and successful career in Hollywood as an agent for many well-known athletes and entertainers. His professional and personal network enabled him to amass a significant collection of memorabilia nearly all of which was given to him directly from the athletes and entertainers themselves. All of these items are being introduced to the marketplace here for the first time.
