The great Mickey Mantle launched 536 career home runs during his illustrious career with the New York Yankees. Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974 Mantle finished his MLB service in 1968 with a career batting average of .298 and 1509 runs batted in. This lot features an oversized (28 wide x 22 high) photo that shows a helmetless Mantle kneeling on one knee in the batters box during a home game at Yankee Stadium. Mantle signed the photo in blue marker and added the following inscription: 536 HRs MVP 56 57 62 HOF 1974. Mantle passed away from cancer on August 13 1995 but his lasting legacy as a Yankees icon will live on indefinitely. Overall the elegantly framed and matted presentation piece measures 34.5 wide by 28 high.
