The late great Mickey Mantle was one of the most legendary players ever to don the New York Yankees trademark pinstripes. Nicknamed the Commerce Comet the Oklahoma-born Mantle hit the major league scene in 1951 and took The Big Apple by storm. A three-time American League MVP (1956 57 and 62) Mantle retired from baseball following the 1968 season with 536 home runs to his credit. This lot includes a pair of items sporting Mantles signature. The first is a complete issue of LIFE Magazines June 25 1956 edition with Mantle gracing the cover. He signed the front of the 134-page magazine in fine-tip blue marker and the autograph rates a strong 8-9/10. The second item is actually a dual-signed 8 x 10 pregame black-and-white photo showing Mantle standing alongside fellow New York Giants center fielder Willie Mays. The two sluggers are shown with bats over their respective right shoulders and both players have signed the photo using blue Sharpies. Both signatures are strong and rate 8-9/10 in our book.
