Here is a museum-worthy artifact that touches three legendary figures from postwar Major League Baseball: a striking image of Mickey Mantle and his manager Casey Stengel posing in one of those classic public relations setups to commemorate Mantle's Triple Crown season in 1956. The 16-by-20-inch black-and-white photo is signed by Mantle in brisk blue Sharpie at the center of the image with the touching inscription to Williams as follows: "To Ted; The Greatest hitter I ever saw and my idol." In the charmingly hammy photograph Mickey holds three bats each with his Triple Crown numbers hand written on the barrels - .353 52 130 - all while ruefully wearing a cheezy "crown" to further enhance the ambiance. Photograph is matted with a 2 1/2-inch white border that is protected in acrylic and bold black frame all elements in seemingly as-issued and problem-free condition. The piece comes with the unimpeachable provenance of coming from Ted's personal collection with Letter of Authenticity from the Williams family provided.
