The heading says it all. The great Mel Ott who according to his family made a few wagers at the track in his day used this very pencil to place his horse racing bets. The metallic device still loaded with a thick piece of lead is engraved "MEL" on the center of the handle. It is "14KT GOLD FILLED" as inscribed towards the writing end. Looks like he used it quite a bit (his granddaughter was told it was his lucky pencil) with the heavy amount of wear. Probably still holds some of his DNA. Comes with what is believed to be its original box labeled in blue pen "Daddy's racehorse pencil" on the outside by presumably one of his children. Ott died in 1958 from injuries suffered in a car accident when he was just 49 years old.
