The 1949 World Series between the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers took place October 5-9. The Yanks ended up victorious once again over their crosstown rivals, taking the series four games to one. Legendary broadcaster Mel Allen conducted the play-by-play every game for his Bronx Bombers during the Fall Classic. Featured here is the Hall of Famer's very own scorecard from the opening game of the 1949 World Series at Yankee Stadium, which concluded with the first walk-off home run in World Series history. The dual-sided scorecard features the scoring from each team neatly done in pencil and remains in excellent condition with all markings legible. Don Newcombe went the distance for the Dodgers and set a then-Series record with eleven strikeouts, but he got zero run support from Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider and company. Leading off the bottom of the ninth in a scoreless tie, Tommy Henrich blasted the game-winning homer and set the tone for the rest of the series. Allen would call a total of 22 World Series during his long tenure with the Yankees. Encapsulated "Authentic" by PSA/DNA (84169209) in a jumbo holder. Originally acquired from the Mel Allen estate (d. 1996).
