In 2002 Roberto Hernandez became the first Latin American MLB player to reach 300 career saves. He did so at Kaufman Stadium on May 25th preserving a 6-3 victory for his Kansas City Royals over the visiting Texas Rangers. While Hernandez would go on to pitch five more seasons in the big leagues 2002 was his last as a full-time closer as he finished the year with 26 saves. His final career tally would be 326 which currently ranks him 14th on the all-time saves list ahead of Hall of Famers Goose Gossage and Bruce Sutter. He also ranks 13th all-time in appearances with 1010. Not too shabby for the big 6'4" hard-thrower from Puerto Rico who played This OML (Selig) ball was the final out of a perfect 1-2-3 inning for Hernandez. He signed the ball which shows plenty of game use in black 9-10/10 ballpoint pen with his "#35" and "300th Save vs Tex 5-25-02" inscribed.

It comes courtesy of former Kansas City Royals 1B coach Tom Gamboa who has included a letter of provenance for further validation.
