A 1952 gold medalist for the United States in the middleweight division of the Helsinki Olympic Games the great Floyd Patterson went on to a very successful professional boxing career in the heavyweight division in which he posted a 55-8-1 record with 40 knockouts. At the age of 21 he became the youngest boxer to win the worldheavyweight title and was also the first heavyweight to regain thetitle after losing it.
This lot features Patterson's actual fight-worn boxing trunks from his May 10 1954 bout versus fellow American Jesse Turner. Fighting in the light heavyweight division at this time it was Patterson's 13th professional fight and he remained unbeaten by winning an 8-round decision over Turner. The white silk Everlast shorts with black trim show fading over time and plenty of fight action and even include what appears to be blood stains on the front and back of the trunks. The fight in question which was held at the Eastern Parkway Arena in Brooklyn New York ended in a unanimous decision for the then-19-year-old Patterson.
Includes LOA from Floyd's widow Janet Patterson. Also comes with a letter of opinion from Craig Hamilton of JO Sports Inc.
