This unique piece of Negro League folk art was created by Bostock after his retirement. The handcarved bat measures 36 inches long with an extremely thick barrel. Bostock has engraved the center brand area of the barrel "Made by Lyman Bostock Sr. Negro League Legends Memories". It is beautifully finished and lacquered. Upon completion Bostock proceeded to have the bat inscribed by Negro League veterans Ray Dandridge Leon Day Ted Double Duty Radcliffe Buck Leonard Bill Byrd George Giles Lester Lockett and Jimmie Crutchfield. Their writings includes personal career highlights memories and even listings of all-time greatest Negro league players. Most inscriptions were applied in felt tip or sharpie marker and done with obvious care (no smearing or overlapping) giving the feeling that each signer felt honored to sign the bat. The signatures are all very strong grading 8 to 10 overall. The bat is unquestionable one of the most unique pieces of baseball folk art weve handled and a very significant personal tribute to the legendary Negro Leagues.
