1923 was a landmark season in New York baseball history. This was the debut season of Yankee Stadium, and that of the team's first World Championship. This group of five original news photos, complete with "International Newsreel" stamping and paper captions on verso, capture the action of that momentous Subway Series. Subjects are as follows: 1) Dave Bancroft in Series' first at-bat. 2) Babe Ruth crossing the plate in Game 4. 3) Wally Pipp holding Dave Bancroft on first base. 4) Babe Ruth crossing the plate after home run in Game 6. 5) Bancroft slides safely into second base in Game 7. Each photo measures 8x10" and exhibits no noteworthy condition distractions.
