The pride of Michigan State University Magic Johnson revolutionized the point guard position in the NBA and his rivalry with Larry Bird (which stemmed from the rivals' final showdown at the NCAA level) sparked a fan resurgence in the 1980's. Magic Johnson was the heart and soul of the "Showtime' Lakers during the 80's and went on to win 5 NBA titles 3 MVP awards 3 finals MVP awards and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992.
