Diego Maradona's 1978 Crack Campeonato Mundial de Fútbol card holds a special place in football history. Issued in Argentina in conjunction with the 1978 FIFA World Cup, hosted on home soil, the card features a 17-year-old Maradona who had already made his senior international debut the previous year and was widely viewed as the nation's brightest emerging talent. In one of the most famous decisions in Argentine sporting history, manager César Luis Menotti ultimately left the teenage prodigy off the final World Cup roster, making this card a fascinating artifact of the tournament that might have been.

The card presents a vibrant color portrait of a young Maradona, his trademark curly hair framing his face, wearing Argentina's sky blue and white striped jersey. The image is set within a bright magenta frame, with the Argentine flag at lower left and a yellow nameplate reading "Diego Maradona, Argentina" at lower right. The reverse is blank, as issued. PSA has graded the card VG-EX 4 (Cert. #164157760), with strong color and attractive centering.

Maradona would answer his omission emphatically, captaining Argentina to the 1986 World Cup title in Mexico and claiming the Golden Ball in one of the greatest individual tournament performances ever recorded, highlighted by the "Hand of God" and the "Goal of the Century" against England.

Rookie-era Maradona cards from Argentine issuers are scarce and avidly pursued by football collectors worldwide. A desirable early issue of an all-time great.
